"The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Phil 4:5b-7

On listening to God's voice and obeying Him
Push-ups for God
In their book, "The Kingdom Assignment", the authors Leesa and Denny Bellesi record the following story. "A man was enjoying an evening with his wife at a worship service at his home church. He heard the Lord say something to him loud and clear. 'Get into the aisle and do ten push-ups' God said. The man looked around to see if anyone else had heard the voice, but people were carrying on as before. Must be my imagination, he thought. Then the command came again. 'Get into the aisle and do ten push-ups. Right here, Lord right now? You can't mean it. I'm going to humiliate myself and embarrass my wife. Get into the aisle and do----.' Fine. He stepped into the middle aisle with gusto, did ten push-ups, and returned to his seat. His wife stared at him, a look of horror on her face. He shrugged his shoulders and decided he would tell her later, even though he wasn't too sure she would believe him. When the service was over, a man, assisted by his wife, came up to the man who had done the push-ups. This man, who seemed strong and confident, was crying and tried to make sense through his tears. "I...I was sitting in the back of the church and... I really didn't want to be here tonight." He wiped the tears from his face. "I was bitter and frustrated with God...I wanted some form of proof that there even was a God." His weeping continued. "I decided to test Him." He swallowed hard, struggling to find his voice. 'I told God...the only way I would believe in Him was if someone in the congregation would spontaneously do ten push-ups in the middle aisle.' Whoa!!! Do you have chills yet? That man prayed with his new friend to receive Christ, and neither one of them will ever be the same. What will God call on you to do? Maybe a handstand on your next trip to the grocery store?" ---The Kingdom Assignment, Leesa and Denny Bellesi
